Tennis stars are fighting their way to the semi-finals of the Toronto Masters. World number one Rafael Nadal faced a tough battle against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in the Rogers Cup quarterfinals on Friday.
Kohlschreiber got off to a good start. The German put Nadal on the back foot by breaking the Spaniard's first service game. He held on to take the opening set 6-3.
It ws the first set Nadal had surrendered this week. But Nadal gradually got his game in gear. He seized the initiative with the early break in the second set to go up 2-0, and won it with a score of 6-3.
The players produced a close third set until Nadal recorded the decisive break to go ahead 4-3, and the Spaniard finally prevailed 6-4 for the match victory.
Nadal will now face title-holder Andy Murray for a place in the final. Murray advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Argentine David Nalbandian.
