Yuka Sato wins 1st Youth Olympic gold in triathlon

We begin in Singapore, and the inaugural Youth Olympic Games. The first youth games everhas it's first ever gold medal winner. Japan's Yuka Sato, making history on Sunday, winning the women's triathlon.

Thirty two athletes competed in the event, which started with a 750-metre swimming race.

Canadian Christine Ridenour was the first out of water and once on the bikes, she surged into a comfortable lead. However, an unfortunate crash resulted in Ridenour dropping down to 14th place.

That enabled Japan's Yuka Sato to overtake in the five-kilometre running leg. The 18-year-old powered ahead and finished the race in one hour 49 seconds to win the first gold medal.
