Football from Germany, and VfL Wolfsburg has made it through to the second round of the German Cup, but not before surviving a scare from Preussen Munster, minnows from the fourth tier of German football.

A very wet Sunday in Munster saw VfL Wolfsburg open their 2010-11 German Cup campaign. Being heavy underdogs and the day's poor conditions didn't seem to bother a boisterous local crowd and Steve McClaren's Wolfsburg knew they were in for a hard match from the start.

Wolfsburg went close first after 26 minutes, when Zvjezdan Misimovic curled in a free kick, forcing a fine save out of Manuel Lenz.

But Munster went even closer five minutes later - handling the soggy pitch, Mehmet Kara dribbled his way through the Wolfsburg defence, the ball was only half cleared and Jonathan Beaulieu-Bourgault's goal-bound header was turned aside.

Wolfsburg opened the score in the second half, Cicero Santos, the 25-year-old Brazilian loanee from Tombense made it 1-0.

Munster though, would equalize off the free kick. Woldsburg's Edin Dzeko, the Bosnian international...attempting to steer the ball wide...instead directing the free kick past his own goalkeeper with some style to make it 1-1.

But Munster's luck ran out from that, from the corner Grafite was able to covert from in close. Wolfsburg sealed the match with the winner, 2-1 the final and Wolfsburg are though to the second round.
