MotoGP standings leader Jorge Lorenzo and his Yamaha took to the Brno track of the Czech Grand Prix on Sunday, hoping for a seventh win this season to extend his advantage over nearest rival, Spanish compatriot Dani Pedrosa.

The Yamaha rider's great season would indeed continue, as Lorenzo cruised his way to his 7th win on the year. Lorenzo started third on the grid, but hit the front on the very first lap and never looked back.

It wasn't quite as much fun for Andrea Dovizioso though. The Repsol Honda rider crashed on lap four and was lucky to evade a number of other competitors in trying to get back in the saddle.

Valentino Rossi, still recovering from injury, battled hard with American Nicky Hayden on his Ducati down the stretch. Rossi finished 5th while Hayden followed.

Australia's Casey Stoner eventually moved into third place at the expense of rookie American Ben Spies, who made the front row of a Grand Prix for the first time in Saturday's qualification.

There was no stopping Lorenzo though and after 22 laps of the Brno circuit the Spaniard took the chequered flag in 43 minutes, 22.638 seconds for his seventh victory of an already brilliant season. Lorenzo now has a 77-point lead in the standings over Spain's Dani Pedrosa who finished in second place.

Jorge Lorenzo, Czech GP Winner, said, "I make quite a good start, and also in the second - third corner I was in first position, so I decided to push out the maximum. I knew it was a very difficult race because there was a lot of wind and also the front tyre slide a lot. But when I saw "plus-zero-three" with Dani (Pedrosa) I push more and I make my seventh victory. So now, I want to dedicate this victory to my mechanics, who were working all the night yesterday, and also for my fan club."
