Liverpool beat Trabzonspor 1-0

Legendary English side Liverpool stepped onto the pitch against Turkish club Trabzonspor with the goal of striding towards the group stages of the Europa League. The two sides played the first leg of their play-off tie in Anfield on Thursday.

In the first half, Liverpool in the familiar red, but the team would see tough defense from the visitors' goalkeeper Onur Kivrak just four minutes into the game.

Kivrak made a great save from Sortirios Kyrgiakos and kept the match score at 0-0.

In the 45th minute, Liverpool breaks through. Midfielder Joe Cole slid a pass to Ryan Babel. The Dutchman scored on a solid shot and notched his 21st goal for the club. Liverpool took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

In the second half, the visitors came close to equalizing. But Reds keeper Pepe Reina denied Umut Bulut's shot. Liverpool takes a slender advantage heading into the return leg in Turkey next Thursday.

Juventus wins over Sturm 2-1 

Austrian side Sturm Graz took on visiting Juventus.

In the first half, the famous brand from Italy wore white and drew first blood behind Leonardo Bonucci. Brazilian international Ribas da Cunha Diego delivered the corner for Bonucci's scoring header.

The home fans had to wait until the 82nd minute before getting a chance to cheer. Sturm Graz defender Gordon Schildenfeld nabbed the equalizer. Schidenfeld hits on the header from close range. Graz and Juventus are tied with 9 minutes to go in the match.

Juventus went on the attack and nearly took the lead...Alessandro Del Piero launched his try on a free kick but missed.

But the Italians would go in front in the 90th minute. Del Piero's corner arrived for Carvalho De Oliveira Amauri to score. Juventus beats Sturm Graz 2-1.
