Bayern Munich opens its Bundesliga season this weekend. The European champion will take on 2009 domestic league title-winner Wolfsburg on Friday. Coach Louis van Gaal guided the Bavarians to a championship double last season and hopes his players can cope with high expectations.
Bayern will start its Bundesliga campaign at home to 2009 champions Wolfsburg and new coach Steve McClaren. Munich coach Louis van Gaal says matching the success of his first season with the club won't be easy.
Bayern Munich Coach Louis van Gaal said,"Yes, Wolfsburg is a team with a lot of good individual players. And the question is always, can the coach form a good team out of his players. We can't judge this today, because we have just started. Steve McClaren has also just started, same as me. And I think we might possibly be able to judge the teams in November, but not now."
Schalke fans have high expectations for the new Bundesliga season after the team added Spanish legend Raul to the squad. Supporters could see their club finally win its first German Championship since 1958.
Raul will be joined by another new signing. Christoph Metzelder will play for Shalke coach Felix Magath after returning to Germany from Real Madrid.
But it isn't all new faces at Shalke. The Royal Blues will be able to rely on Germany World Cup goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.
He took the captain's armband from departed skipper Heiko Westermann in the German Supercup two weeks ago, and is expected to lead the club in the coming season.
Shalke will travel north to face Hamburg for its opener on Saturday.
