Xie storms to gold in boys 200m
China continued to grab medals, with five more golds in four sports on Sunday. Chinese sprinter Xie Zhenye was the runner to watch in the boys 200 meter final. He jumped out to a slim margin off the start, and battled one-on-one with Keisuke Homma in the final 80 meters. But Xie stormed to victory in a time of 21.22 seconds. Homma took silver.
Kenya's Gladys Chesir won the girls' 3,000 metre gold medal with a personal best time of 9 minutes, 13.58 seconds. In the boys' 10,000 metre walk, Ukraine's Igor Lyaschenko broke away from his rivals. He won gold comfortably in 42 minutes, 43.93 seconds.
China took a medal in the girls' shot put. Gu Siyu hurled a distance of 15.49 meters to earn silver. Natalia Troneva of Russia won the gold medal.
Qiu dives to gold, Daley falls
Over to the pool and an upset in men's diving. Great Britain's Thomas Daley brought adult Olympic experience to the men's 3m springboard. But Chinese diver Qiu Bo established a comfortable lead after 2 rounds.
Daley fumbled in his third dive. He disappointed the experts and fell to 9th place in the standings.
Qiu stayed steady and rode a consistent performance to a gold medal victory. Qiu racked up a total of 607.15 points to beat Ukraine's Oleksandr Bondar.
Tan completes double in Gymanstics
China's Tan Sixin was the first to compete in the balance beam. She turned in near-flawless routine and earned 15.550 points. The performance meant a gold medal for Tan.
Tan is emerging as one of China's new gymnastics stars, and she stepped-up again in the women's floor exercise. The youngster went for her second gold medal of the night and got it with a total of 14.525 points.
Gao shoots down gold in 10m air rifle
China's Gao Tingjie fumbled in his first attempt in the 10 meter air rifle final. But Gao regained his poise to win China's first gold medal in shooting in a total of 694.9 points.
