The trash talk has begun ahead of October's heavyweight title bout between current WBC champ Vitali Klitschko and contender Shannon Briggs. Briggs, the former heavyweight champion says he plans to make Klitschko his "32nd first-round victim" when they step into the ring.
Thirty-eight year-old American Briggs is the fourth choice of opponent for Ukraine's Klitschko, after Russian pair Nikolai Valuev and Alexander Povetkin and British heavyweight David Haye refused the bout. The pair will square up in Klitschko's adopted home city of Hamburg in Germany on October 16th.
39-year-old Klitschko currently has the WBC belt in his possession. Briggs, meanwhile, won the WBO title with a 12th-round knockout of Sergei Liakhovich in November 2006, but lost the title in his first defence against Sultan Ibragimov eight months later.
Nicknamed "The Cannon", Briggs has a record of 54-5-1 and is currently eighth in the WBC rankings.
Shannon Briggs said:"It's no secret I am looking forward to making him my 32nd first-round victim ... That's how I fight every fight ... Then, of course, if it doesn't happen, I go for Plan B .. Knock him out in the second round."
Vitali Klitschko said, "Our choice was to fight Shannon Briggs on October 16th. This sportsman is a very serious pretender to this title. He is in a very high range."
