China lose to Puerto Rico 84-76

China went into its third game of the tournament with one win and one loss. The squad would try to grab three more points in the standings with a win against Puerto Rico in a tough Group C matchup.

China got off to a dream start, Wang Zhizhi laid in a basket to start the scoring nd then he dropped a three. China took an early 5-0 lead.

Washington Wizards forward Yi Jianlian knocked down a three-pointer midway through the first quarter and followed with a slam in the paint. Yi scored inside and outside as China ran out to a 10 point margin.

but Puerto Rico recovered and came back strong.

Angel Vassallo cut the deficit to 5 and gave his team the confidence it needed to rally with China.

Midway through third, sharp shooter Sun Yue nailed a couple of three pointers. China took a series of narrow leads in the second half.

But Puerto Rico got in front and pulled away late in the third period.

Guard Jose Barea led the way with this three. Puerto Rico led China by 9.

Yi buried one from the baseline in the fourth quarter. China would not go quietly down the stretch,but Puerto Rico got the points it needed to crush China's comeback.

Barea delivered an assist for one basket and then he sank a jumper to confirm 2 more points.

Puerto Rico went on to close out a 84-76 victory, pushing China to the verge of elimination of the FIFA World Championship.

China forward Yi Jianlian"We got off to a good start to take the lead.but they launched counter-attacks thanks to the guard's efforts, which hindered our offence. Starting from second quarter, they managed to cut the deficit to within 10 points thanks to some runs. We played neck-and-neck in the second half, but we failed to take the chance."
