Federer, Sharapova advance, Jankovic out of US Open

Five time US Open Champion Roger Federer cruised into the fourth round of the 2010 tournament beating Frenchman Paul-Henri Mathieu. But ladies fourth seed Serbian former world number 2 Jelena Jankovic crashed out to 31st seed Estonia's Kaia Kanepi in Arthur Ashe stadium.

Kanepi took an easy first set and a 7-1 lead at the tie break in the second to close out an impressive 6-2, 7-6 victory. The Estonian now will play the winner of Patty Schnyder against Yanina Wickmayer for a place in the quarter-finals at Flushing Meadows.

Over on Louis Armstrong court, Top seed Danish Caroline Wozniacki dispatched Yung-Jan Chan 6-1, 6-0 with a blistering backhand on match point. Wozniacki has lost a total of three games in three matches and will meet Maria Sharapova in the fourth round,

And Sharapova thrashed American Beatrice Capra 6-0 6-0. Sharapova will be looking to add to her three Major titles, dominated the match from the start as the young American was unable to duplicate the level she played at in her earlier wins over No. 95 Karolina Sprem and 18th-seeded Aravane Rezai.

On the men's side, fifth seed Robin Soderling beat Thiemo De Bakker of the Netherlands 6-2, 6-3, 6-3. The Swede will face Albert Montanes, who was leading Japanese qualifier Kei Nishikori 6-2, 2-1 when the world No. 147 Nishikori retired with a groin injury - in the fourth round.

Second seed and five time former Champion Roger Federer beat Paul-Henri Mathieu of France with a confident 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory to take his place in the last 16.
