China's top-notch riders competed at the National Equestrian Jumping Champion Tour finals, an event designed for the medal hopefuls to test their horses and get ready for the upcoming Asian Games which will take place this November.

The National Equestrian Jumping Champion Tour finals took to the Beijing International Equestrian Club on Sunday. Several national champions together with some 100 riders from the clubs across the country steered their horses in the two-day event.

One of the most acclaimbed names was Zhang Bin from Shanghai, who qualified for the Asian Games after finishing first in the riders' standings over the previous tours. In the 140cm category, Zhang, on his Heraldo, staged several flawless rounds, eventually claimed 2nd place.

Zhang Bin, a national rider said, "I haven't competed for over two months. I used this Beijing event and the previous competitions to warm up my horses. My goal is to complete my routines smoothly and safely. "

Zhang, together with his national teammates, like Li Zhenqiang and Chen Jingchuan, is considered quite competitive in winning medals for China .in the team events in Guangzhou. Zhang says they will do their best.

"I think our crew is very strong. We have a chance to compete medals with other teams at the Asian Games." Said Zhang Bin.

Those national champions did live up expectations, displaying an impressive performance. But there are more young riders who also demonstrated their potentials.

Vincent Vermeulew, an veteran rider from the Netherlands, representing the hosting club, also compted in the event, expressed his views on the growth of sport in China.

Vermeulew, who also trains young Chinese riders at the club, says equestrian sports need long-time dedication. But thanks to big events like the past Beijing Olympic Games and the upcoming Asian Games and regular events like this, more Chinese stars will emerge in this sport.
