Japanese teenager Shoya Tomizawa died after crashing and being hit by two other riders during Sunday's Moto2 race at the San Marino Grand Prix.
19-year-old Tomizawa lost control of his bike and hit his head on the track as his bike flipped over. He was then hit at full speed by two following riders.
The Technomag-CIP rider was initially put on an artificial respirator at the Misano World Circuit medical centre before he was taken to a hospital in Riccione, where he died as a result of multiple injuries, including cranial, thoracic and abdominal trauma.
Shoya Tomizawa was new to Moto2 this season, having spent the previous two years in 125cc. The 19-year-old Japanese was a real rising star, having won the season-opener in Qatar. But on Sunday, all that promise was left permanently unfulfilled.
