Djokovic, showing no signs of weariness after his gruelling five-set semi-final win over Roger Federer on Saturday, broke Nadal's serve in the fourth game to level the opening set at 2-2. But the Spaniard broke for a second time to lead 3-2 and went on to wrap up the first set 6-4 in 50 minutes.

The first three games of the second set went with service before Nadal suddenly lost his way, giving up 11 points in a row, including a vital service break.

Djokovic consolidated the advantage when he held to love to lead 4-1. But Nadal regained his composure and won the next three games in a row to level the set at 4-4 when a thunderstorm forced the match to be suspended.//Play resumed just under two hours later and after both players held their first service games, Djokovic broke Nadal to clinch the set after 70 minutes when the Spaniard made two successive errors.
