Just three weeks into the New Italian Serie A football season and players are calling for strike action. Over the close season, Juventus defender Fabio Grosso turned down a move to AC Milan. That caused club Presidents to band together and propose a new rule that would limit the numbers of players in any squad from being able to refuse a move to another team.

Representatives of the Italian Footballers Association and the teams association are set to meet in Rome to try and resolve the proposed strike set to take place next weekend. The strike was announced in a statement read by AC Milan defender Massimo Oddo, and he has the backing of all 20 Serie A club captains and Union representatives. If the action goes ahead it'll coincide with the season's first high-profile match when Roma entertain Inter Milan on Sept. 25. Further meetings are scheduled to take place later in the week.

Maurizio Bretta, President of Serie A football Clubs Association said, "The strike was announced in a very extravagant way, before we even started to talk to each other. De facto it becomes a deadline for the negotiations, but it has been called and we will see if there will be any further developments during this confrontation."
