The president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge has pledged to do all he can for Palestinian Athletes who face difficulties moving around the territories. It's alleged that Israeli restrictions make training difficult and Rogge's remarks come after meeting Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad in the West Bank.

IOC president Jacques Rogge said, "I believe the unanimous voice of the world of sport to ask political authorities to remove obstacles to free circulation, that is something that we can bring. The International Olympic Committee is a sport organization - it is not a political or a sovereign organization. The International Olympic Committee has only the power of persuasion and we will try to persuade the people we speak to."

Rogge visits West Bank

Rogge also met with Jibril Rajoub, the head of the Palestinian Football Association and chief of the Palestinian Olympic Committee. Rajoub hopes the IOC president's visit will help raise the profile of Palestinian problems within the international community. Rogge toured Ramallah's main football stadium, where the president and his delegation took part in a friendly game. Palestinian Olympic officials say about 70 percent of their athletes work in various Palestinian security services. Officials say they are regarded with suspicion by Israeli authorities and often face travel restrictions. Rogge is scheduled to meet with Israeli president Shimon Peres on Thursday.
