Pearl River patrols ramped up

Patrols on the Pearl River have been ramped up ahead of the Asian Games. The river will play a big part in the opening ceremonies of the Games and to ensure nothing goes wrong, the Guangdong Maritime Safety Administration isn't taking any chances.

During the Asian Games Opening Ceremony, 50 boats carrying the athletes and officials will head down the Pearl River.

The route will cover 9.2 kilometers and the flotilla will pass under 6 bridges in all.

To make sure the procession down the Pearl goes smoothly, Maritime Safety Administration staff are now patrolling the river right around the clock, every day.

Safety checks are a big part of the patrols as the police check navigation points, lighting. The Maritime Safety Administration is also rehearsing emergency scenarios, so they are ready for anything once the Games and the opening ceremonies do arrive.

Airport security increased in Guangzhou

Security checks are also being stepped up at the Guangzhou Airport. More than 400 students from the Jiangxi Police college have come to Guangzhou to support Guangzhou Airport Security staff. Another force of over 800 policemen from all around China, including 60 from the Beijing Capital Airport, who have Beijing Olympic Security check experience are also joining the Asian Games Security force.
