Taekwondo Team prepare for Asian Games

China's taekwondo team is holding its final practice sessions before the Asian Games. Olympic champions Luo Wei and Wu Jingyu are two experienced competitors who are looking forward to the action in Guangzhou.

The Chinese taekwondo squad is a team in transition. Veterans are getting ready to retire, and younger players have yet to step up.

Yao Qiang, national team coach said, "The team is in a transition phase, just like they do in other sports. We have older players and younger players on the team. Luo Wei is an Olympic champion from 2004, Wu Jingyu is an Olympic champion from 2008, but half of the team are all young competitors. We filled those spots according to their ability, not their age."

The team came to Guangzhou to begin training two weeks ago. All the athletes say they've gotten accustomed to their surroundings.

Luo Wei, 2004 Olympic champion said, "I'm quite comfortable about the weather here. I came to Guangzhou a lot of times. I was originally from South, so I like the weather and enjoy the food here very well. "

China entered the Asian Games' lightweight category for the first time, and Wu Jingyu will shoulder the responsibility to notch the first gold.

Wu Jingyu, 2008 Olympic Champion said, "In a big tournament like the Asian Games, I will be well prepared before the match, and treat the competition with a normal attitude. Anyway, I'll try my best. If I can get a gold, it will be my honor. If not, my spirit and taekwondo's spirit still goes on."
