Modern Pentathlon is different from the other Asian Games sports. A horse and its rider must work together to gain the top scores. How to keep the two in sync is the event's biggest skill.

Kazakhstan's Galina Dolgushina was injured after falling with her horse in the women's modern pentathlon competition on Tuesday. Dolgushina was injured, but her horse suffered a broken neck and had to be put to death. It wasn't the first time that's happened.

It also happened to China's Chen Qian. Chen is a talented equestrian competitor. But her horse wouldn't jump at the beginning of the match. Then, at the 5th jump, Chen Qian fell off.

"First of all, the horse often bounced. I found I was not very familiar with the horse when I was warming up. After the horse jumped the barrier, it was too strong and bounced me off."

Chen made some adjustments and returned to the course. But the horse didn't jump at the last barrier once again, and Chen lost the chance to battle for a medal.

"I didn't think that I would have any problems at equestrian. But after the match I learned that I should pay more attention to the special horse I'm riding."

The horses in the Modern Pentathlon are offered by the organizing committee. The riders draw to decide which horse to ride before the match. The horses have already been tested, but it isn't easy for the riders to become familiar with the horse in 20 minutes.

"If the horse is a rushing horse, we should control its speed. If the horse is slow, we should use the whip and also the foot to kick."

Chen is a talented equestrian competitor. But her horse wouldn't jump at the
beginning of the match. Then, at the 5th jump, Chen Qian fell off.

The problem also happened with a South Korean rider. His horse didn't jump at the start. He eventually discovered he was leading his horse in the wrong direction.

"Some horses are not familiar in walking from the left side, or the horse may have had an accident on the left side, so the riders should change to a different direction."

If Modern Pentathlon competitors want to get the highest scores, they don't just need to ride different styles of horses, but they need to know the horses' characters,as well.
