Chinese duo win Men's kayak double 1000m gold

China turned to the canoe and kayak events to win two more gold medals at the Asian Games. Athletes teamed up to grab wins in a pair of dramatic races on the water in Guangzhou.

The Chinese duo of Huang Zhipeng and Xu Haitao took part in the men's Kayak Double 1000 meters. They fell behind at the start, but did not get in a hurry and built confidence as the race went on. The pair caught-up little-by-little and the race drew closer in the second half. Huang and Xu ran in third place with 500 meters to go. They closed the gap to the first place team from Japan to only a half-second. Huang Zhipeng and Xu Haitao finally overtook not just the Japanese duo, but the Kazakstan duo as well. They crossed the finish line first in 3 minutes 14.699 seconds for the Men's Kayak Double 1000 meter gold medal.

China wins women's kayak four 500m gold

Chinese teammates Wang Feng, Yu Lamei, Ren Wenjun and Wu Yanan took part in the women's Kayak Four 500 meter event. The Chinese team was strong from the start, and the competition result was never in doubt. China already held a one second lead in the second half of the race, and kept the momentum to cross the line first in 1:34:440. The Chinese quartet claimed the gold in the women's Kayak Four 500 meters with Uzbekistan crossing second and Japan finishing third.

Si Tianfeng wins men's 50m race walking gold

Over to race walking. China placed two athletes in the five-man 50km final. The host nation's real threat came from Japanese walker Koichiro Morioka. The three led the group and it was anyone's race until the 40th kilometer. Chian's Si Tianfeng and Li Lei broke into a final sprint. Japan's Morioka couldn't hold on and began to fade from the front. It was all down to the two Chinese walkers with 5 kilometers to go, and Si Tianfeng proved to be the strongest. He pushed his way through the final kilometers to cross the line first in 3 minutes 47.04 seconds, his best result of the season. Li Lei took second place, 7 seconds ahead of Morioka.
