Afghan giving nation plenty to cheer about

It has been a moon rocket ride to the top for Afghanistans cricketers. They recorded their biggest ever victory against Pakistan in the Semi finals and now face Bangladesh in the final. But after years of violence in the landlocked country - Jonas Gilbart finds out just how one game is inspiring people to break out into smiles and cheers.

At the Asian Games, a loud and proud Afghan contingent has been following their national cricket team closely. Among them, Abdul Majeeb Khan. For Abdul, the success of the national team is a chance to change the headlines.

Abdul said following the teams shock semi-final win over rival Pakistan he spoke to his family in Afghanistan...and they were all celebrating the victory. Afganistan team captain Mohammed Nabi Eisakhil knows how important the performance of his side is to his people.

Despite great obstacles in their war-torn homeland, the Aghan national team has enjoyed a meteoric rise.

The side remains unable to host home games due to a lack of facilities and security concerns...but they have overcome and now compete regularily against the best in the world. The historic performance of the side at these Asian Games, providing Afghans here in Guangzhou and back home a reason to stand up and cheer.
