Li Jianwei is the sixth member of China 5-a-side football team. You might not see him on the field, but he is always there for his teammates.

Anyone who has tried to play football will tell you: it is not as easy as the professionals make it look. Add to it the fact that these players cannot see the ball. Five-a-side football is open to athletes with blindness or visual impairment, with one sighted player taking the position as goalkeeper. And the sixth member of the team is the guide person. Li Jianwei plays that role. He stands behind the net during the match and guides his teammates with his rhythmic shouts.

The sixth player is always backing up his teammates, behind the rival's

Li Jianwei of China 5-A-Side Football Team, said, "I provide the eyes for them. I have to guide them during the match. You know, I have to stand behind the net, and when they come close with the ball I have to shout with a special rhythm. I can tell them how close or far it is from the net."

The players on the field can only use their ears and sense of feel. But Li Jianwei makes their job much easier, especially when the opponents approach the area.

Zheng Wenfa of China 5-A-Side Football Team, said, "He definitely acts as our eyes. He alerts us to every movement and shot in the area. And he also guides our attacking direction. So you can say that every goal we make comes from him."

The game consists of two 25 minute halves. The field measurements are smaller and there is no offside rule. The players use eye shades to ensure fairness, and there are five on the field instead of 11. But the sixth player is always backing up his teammates, behind the rival's net.
