La Liga: Barcelona forced to 1-1 draw by Sevilla

Players stepped aside for a moment to remember the disaster victims in Japan. Sevilla and league leader Barcelona joined forces before their match to send a message of support.

They unveiled a banner reading: "Japan, we're with you", in response to the earthquakes and tsunami that have devastated the country.

In the first half action...'Barca' dominated possession but didn't score until the 30th minute. Dani Alves laid the ball off to Bojan Krkic, who guided it over the line past Martin Caceres. (replay)Substitute Krkic was put into the game in the 13th minute...he made it 1-0 Barca.

Lionel Messi was kept in check, but he came close to doubling the visitors' lead before the break. Xavi sent him the ball, but Messi headed it off the crossbar.

Eight-place Sevilla didn't have many chances to equalize, but got a break three minutes into the second half. Midfielder Jesus Navas with the was suddenly 1-1.

Barcelona's Victor Valdes made a great defensive play with 15 minutes to go. Navas sent another shot toward the goal, but Valdes got his leg out just in time. Valdes with the denial...the score stayed tied.

But Barca continued to threaten...88th minute...Andres Iniesta's shot was stopped by the woodwork. It was the second time in the game that Barca smacked a ball off the crossbar.

A desperate Sevilla defence kept the match 1-1...and Gary Medel denied Iniesta again in injury time. Sevilla and Barcelona finish the game in a draw.

Other results of the day: Osasuna beat Racing Santander 3-1. Malaga defeated Real Sociedad, Espanyol got past Deportivo La Coruna, and Levante and Villarreal finished with 1-all draws in their games.

In the standings.. Barcelona still stands five points atop the table with 75. Real Madrid is next...after a 2-0 win over Hercules a day earlier. Valencia, Villarreal and Espanyol are in third, fourth, and fifth place. Athletic Bilbao drops to sixth with one game in hand.
