World No. 1 John Higgins faced Shaun Murphy in the third round, and the top seed would get a surprise.

The Scot started hot, but lost steam quickly. Higgins won the opening frame, Murphy rounded into form right after that, and the score went to 1-1. Murphy went back to back with frames of 53 and 78 to take a 2-1 lead.

Higgins pulled level at the break, but then, Murphy started to pull away. A break of 81 gave Murphy a healthy 3-2 lead. Murphy then blasted a century of 108. He would knock out the World No. 1 with a 54, and advance to the China Open semifinals. It was a classic match between the pair. Murphy takes it 5-2.
