Before Wednesday's second leg started, Inter Milan captain Javier Zanetti received a special award for his 1,000th game as a professional.

The first half was a disappointment and the closest the crowd came to seeing a goal came in the 18th minute - Roma's Daniele De Rossi shooting narrowly over the crossbar.

In the 58th minute, Inter players and supporters alike shouted for a penalty as the ball appeared to strike Roma defender Simone Perrotta following Houssine Kharja's cross, but the referee waved play on and Samuel Eto'o coolly passed the ball into the net for his 38th goal of the season. Inter Milan 1-0.

Just seven minutes later, Inter might have made it 2-0 , but Roma 'keeper Doni kept his side in the game with a fine save after Giampaolo Pazzini had beaten two Roma defenders to a long pass up-field.

In the 75th minute, Roma's midfield shifted up a gear in response and the visitors were desperately unlucky not to have equalized when Marco Borriello hit the inside of both posts with a right foot strike

However, they did break through with six minutes left on the clock. Marco Cassetti and Simone Perrotta combined to produce a curling cross from the right and Borriello's well-directed header made it 1-1. And that was the final score and Inter had won 2-1 on aggregate, reaching the final.
