The International athletics Diamond League series continues in the US state of Oregon, this coming week.

One of the stars, on the road to a successful comeback from injury is China's former World Champion hurdler Liu Xiang.

Competing against a strong international field recently, in his hometown of Shanghai, Liu Xiang showed the world and his opponents his new start technique - he now takes one less step before reaching the first hurdle. In his first competitive attempt Liu's new style was enough to win in a time of 13.07 seconds. Following the Shanghai meet, Liu's coach, Sun Haiping, has been studying the video to get his pupil to go even faster.

Sun Haiping, Liu Xiang's coach, said, "With the new start technique, sometimes he runs faster, sometimes slower. But I think after we studied the video and do some more training, the results will be more stable. Then he'll be ready for the big races."

The International athletics Diamond League series continues in the US state of Oregon, this
coming week. Liu will spend some time training in the United States.

Liu will face his main challenger, American David Oliver, at next week's stop on the circuit. Oliver was unbeaten this year until running second to Liu in Shanghai this month. Oliver made the same change to his start technique.

Liu said, "I will focus on the training right now, specially the new start technique. Handling that is important for me. Then I can improve my results."

Liu will spend some time training in the United States after next weekend's meet focussing on August's world championships in South Korea.
