Bin Hammam banned from football for life

The verdict is in. Mohammed bin Hammam, has been banned from the world of football for life.

The former Asian Football Confederation president, who says he will fight the ruling, has been found guilty by football's governing body, FIFA, of bribing presidential election voters.

A FIFA ethics panel has ruled that the Qatari candidate conspired to pay Caribbean officials 40-thousand US dollars in cash bribes to back his ultimately abandoned challenge to FIFA President Sepp Blatter.

Bin Hammam, a 15-year veteran of the FIFA executive committee, is the most senior football official convicted of corruption in its 107-year history.

Petrus Damaseb, Head of FIFA Ethic Committee said, "The official Mr Bin Hammam is hereby banned from taking part in any kind of football related activity at national and international level, administrative sports and any other for life as from 29 May 2011 in accordance of article 22 of FIFA disciplinary code and in connection of article 17 of the FIFA code of ethics."
