Italy's defending champion Pellegrini wins women's 400m freestyle

In the women's 400, it was Italy's defending champion Federica Pellegrini reaching the halfway mark in fifth place. But she finished strongly to take victory in a time of four minutes 4.01 seconds.

Britain's Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington had to swim in lane one after a poor qualifying race, but she edged out France's Camille Muffat by 3-one-hundredths of a second for second place.
