Fans in the United States were treated to a beauty last night as Manchester United took on Barcelona. This match, a rematch of the Champions League final two months ago in London, when Barcelona broke the hearts of Manchester United and its fans with a mesmerizing performance at Wimbledon.

United lost Brazilian defender Rafael to injury inside the first twenty minutes after this challenge. After receiving treatment, Rafael tried to continue but was soon replaced by his brother Fabio.

Barcelona were pressing for the first goal in the 22nd minute but conceded possession. The ball fell to Danny Welbeck, who rushed back downfield. Welbeck fed Nani for a clear run on goal. The Portuguese winger was just onside and nutmegged Barca 'keeper Victor Valdes to make it one-nil.

With the score unchanged at half-time, basketball star Kobe Bryant took to the pitch. Bryant is in town to play in a celebrity match for charity on Sunday, and he showed good form easily rolling in a penalty kick to the delight of the crowd.

Thiago would level the contest in the 70th minute for Barcelona. The 20-year-old midfielder let fly with a vicious shot that gave De Gea no chance.

But the deadlock didn't last long. Just over five minutes later, Sergio Busquets' pass was intercepted by Tom Cleverly. Cleverly passed the ball over to a wide open Michael Owen and the veteran striker took off towards the net.

Owen chipped the ball over Valdes and Manchester United were back in front of their Spanish rivals, and that would be the final score. The English team have won all five of their pre-season matches in North America. They will take the pitch next at home for Paul Scholes' testimonial on August 5th.
