The FINA World Championships ended in style with a record-breaking performance by Chinese swimmer Sun Yang. He re-set Australian great Grant Hackett's 10-year-old mark in the 1,500 metres, the oldest world record in the sport.

Fans in Shanghai were waiting for this race all week long. The 19-year-old made all his training and hard work pay off with a dramatic final push in the last 50 meters. Sun trailed the world record pace by more than 2 minutes before producing a searing final two laps. He touched the wall after 14 minutes, 34.14 seconds, and broke the longest-standing record in swimming.
