The immediate future of the pro basketball season in the USA returned to center stage on Monday. The first meeting to include leadership from NBA owners and players since the lockout began exactly a month ago happened in New York City.

The gathering came exactly three months before the scheduled opening of the regular season November 1st. Neither side seemed particularly optimistic after it concluded. Players’ association president and L-A Lakers guard Derek Fisher told reporters there were no new proposals, but he believed there could be future sessions between the sides in August. On the other side of the talks, NBA Commissioner David Stern looked grim when he left the meeting.
