China will send its largest ever team to the 26th Universiade in Shenzhen. The Chinese badminton team is seeking to continue it's on court domination.

At the 2009 Universiade in Turkey, the 400 or so members of the Chinese delegation won 22 gold, 21 silver and 15 bronze medals to finish second on the medal standings. Players from five universities form China's badminton team with 12 players in all. The 6 male and 6 female players will represent the nation in each of the categories on offer and most of them are professional players.

Lin Liwen, China Universiade Badminton Team Coach said, “They are student-athletes and most of them are professionals. So, I feel confident in them.”

Li Tian is a third year student at Beijing Sports University. Along with his team mate he won the men's doubles at this year’s national championship. In Shenzhen he'll contest the men's doubles and mixed doubles.

Lin Tian said, “This is a great honour for me to be a member of the Universiade badminton team. I will give my best. “

The badminton team not only aims to win all the gold medals on offer but to make friends from around the world.

Lin Liwen said, “We are not only competing in Shenzhen, but also aim to get familiar with different universities from a variety of nations. That is also our goal. That's the difference between us and other national teams. There's no pressure on us. We'll go to Shenzhen and enjoy the games.”

Even without pressure, Chinese athletes still hope to stamp their position in the top three on the medal table.
