Golf's new stars are putting on a great show at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. Australian Adam Scott leads a congested third-round leaderboard after a day of dazzling shot-making and low scoring in Akron, Ohio.

U-S Open champion Rory McIlroy had his best round of the week so far. He carded a 67. The man from Northern Ireland made back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17 to go to seven-under, five shots off the lead.

Adam Scott started the day in a share of the lead and played his first 11 holes on par. Tiger Woods' former caddie Steve Williams is handling the bag for the Australian this weekend, and watched as Scott scored three birdies in the next five holes for the lead at 11-under. Then Scott played a pinpoint approach at the 16th to set up his fourth birdie in five holes. He rolled into the outright lead at 12-under.

Rickie Fowler's first professional victory cannot be too far away. He slipped back from a share of the overnight WGC lead on Saturday. But the 22-year-old American did play the shot of the day when his iron approach on the 11th spun back into the hole for an eagle, which left him three strokes behind leader Scott.

Tiger Woods started the day at one-under, but he bogeyed the opening hole. He made par at the next hole before missing this short putt on the eighth to go over-par for most of the day.

Woods struggled, but he fought back on the ninth with this birdie from 20 feet to get back to even par. He made just two birdies on the day and missed another short par putt at the last hole for a 72. Tiger will start the final round at one-over.
