In major league baseball, the Boston Red Sox traveled west to meet the Seattle Mariners. The Red Sox sent Tim Wakefield to the mound, a pitcher the Mariners have already defeated this season.

Seattle grabs an early lead thanks to Mariner shortstop Jack Wilson. He sends a groundball up the middle of the field. Red Sox shortstop Jed Lowrie is unable to throw him out at first base. Casper Wells jogs home on the play to put Seattle ahead 1-0.

The Mariners take a 3-1 advantage into the fifth inning. They have two runners on base and no outs when rookie second baseman Dustin Ackley hits a sharp single up the middle. Ichiro Suzuki scores and Seattle is up 4-1.

Seattle's Casper Wells sends a shot to left field and over the fence for his seventh home run of the season. It's the second straight game that Wells has hit a home run. But the Red Sox threaten to make a game of the contest in the eighth inning.

Kevin Youkilis connects for a home run to left field with Dustin Pedroia on base. The two-run homer cuts the Mariner's lead in half, but Seattle shuts the Boston bats down for the rest of the game. The Mariners win Sunday's contest 5-3.
