China to compete in men's 100m at Universiade

Track and field event is set to begin in the World Universiade on Tuesday. Nearly 1,500 athletes will compete for 50 gold medals in the next six days. Two athletes from the host team became the focus as they are taking part in the first round in men's 100-meter event.

This pair is taking part in the men's 100-meter event. The one in blue is Su Bingtian from Jinan University. Apart from taking part in the Universiade, he is also preparing for the Daegu World Championships in South Korea later this month as a member of 4*100 meters relay event for the national team.

His roommate Huang Minhua from Beijing University is the local resident in Shenzhen. During their training in the stadium for the first time, both of them are excited ahead of the competition.

Su Bingtian, Chinese Universiade Team Member said, "I consider this is such a great field and the atmosphere would be great too when I compete here. I will do some training today and try to get used to the field and see how the field is."

Huang Minhua, also Chinese Universiade Team Member said, "I am extremely excited. The matches I competed before was taken place in the high school. And the field was not comparable with this field here. And apart from my parents, my high school classmates, college classmates will also come and watch me competing."

Along with his teammates, 22-year-old Su won the gold medal in men's 4*100 meter relay in Guangzhuo Asian Games last year, breaking the national record in eight years. In March this year, he set a new Chinese national indoor record in Chengdu in men's 60-meter event with his best result of 6"56.

In Kobe Asian Championships in Japan last month, he also claimed the victory in men's 100-meter event, taking China's first ever gold medal in Asian Championships. With his result of 10"21, Su is the most possibility to become the fastest man in the Universiade. Su says he is confident with the gold despite injury.

Su Bingtian said, "I got some slight injuries in my training lately. I hope this would not affect my performance in the competition. And I truly expect the gold medal."

With his best result of 10"37, 24-year-old Huang Minhua says his goal is to compete with Su in the final.

Huang Minhua said, "I feel really glad to compete for Beijing University. And my goal is to enter the final stage."

A total of 88 athletes will take part in the first round in men's 100-meter event. Let's hope they pair a great success at the games with a perfect ending.
