Kohlschreiber ousts Roddick in RD.1

08-17-2011 10:53 BJT

Action from the Cincinatti Masters, where two-time champion Andy Roddick is heading home early. Roddick the eleventh seed, self-destructing in his opener against unseeded German Philip Kohlschreiber.

Roddick, a previous winner of the event in 2003 and 2006, would come unhinged in the first round in Ohio.

After taking the first set in a tiebreak, the American would need to hold serve to extend the second set. But after his return found the net, Kohlschrieber levelled at a set apiece, while Roddick's frustration began to show. He smashed his raquet, earning a warning from the umpire.

And Roddick, absolutely fell apart in the decider, Kohlscrieber serving out a 6-1 win to move on to round two where he will play Spain's Feliciano Lopez.
