Number eight seed Tomas Berdych faced another Argentinian, Juan Monaco. Berdych came into the match with a 4-0 career record over Monaco, but it was only after the Czech player had claimed a tight first set, in a tiebreak, that he felt able to open up. The second set was in stark contrast to the first, Berdych never gave an inch as he reeled off six games in a row to cruise into the last sixteen.
