Sharapova makes final of Cincinnati Open

Maria Sharapova won an all-Russian semi-final against Vera Zvonareva at the Cincinnati Open in Ohio to reach yet another final.

Zvonareva, the number two seed was comfortable in the first set and easily won it 6-2 after breaking an out-of-sorts Maria Sharapova twice. The fourth seed upped her game in the second set making Zvonareva do all the running with a vast array of shots, she won this rally with a slice and Sharapova seemed to be back to her best.

A double fault from Zvonareva handed Sharapova the second set 6-3 and brought the match level at a set each. The momentum was with Sharapova and the number four seed played a backhand that went over Zvonareva and onto the baseline to give her two break points in the fourth game. Sharapova, who is looking for her second tournament title of the season after winning in Rome, took the third set 6-3 to advance to the final where she'll meet Jelena Jankovic closing it out by wrong footing her opponent.
