UEFA Champions League: Arsenal draws 1-1 at Borussia Dortmund

In Group F, Arsenal travelled to Dortmund.

The start of the match can only be described as frantic with several good chances for both sides early on. Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger had to watch from the stands due to a suspension.

A clever flick by teenager Mario Goetzeto sends Robert Lewandowski through but the Pole's effort was cleared on the line by Bacary Sagna.

The home side pays the price later when Dutch striker Robin Van Persie intercepts a pass and Theo Walcott sends the Dutchman through to fire in for the lead three mintues before the break.

Dortmund eventually comes up with the equaliser when a loose ball falls to substitute Ivan Perisic who times his volley to perfection, to trigger wild celebrations two minitues from time. The hosts settle for a 1-1 draw against Arsenal.

In other matches, Porto beat Shakhtar Donetsk 2-1 in Group G. In Group F, French side Marseille edged out Olympiakos Piraeus 1-0 in Greece. Newcomers Viktoria Plzen gets their first point with a 1-1 draw at home to BATE Borisov of Belarus.

Belgium side Genk are still waiting for their first victory in the group stage of the competition, after they made their only other appearance nine years ago, but were satisfied with a 0-0 home draw against Valencia in Group E.
