Last year's Champions League runner's up, Manchester United, face Benfica later today in the opening match of their campaign. United will be looking to continue their impressive record against Benfica, having won six of their seven meetings.

Manchester United have been in phenomenal form in their domestic league this season, with four wins from as many games, scoring 18 goals in the process. United have reached three of the last four Champions League finals, claiming the title in the 2007-08 season.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes his side's impressive form in Europe in recent years will continue.

Alex Ferguson, Manchester United Manager said, "Well it's always a challenge for us. We're coming closer all the time to getting another trophy in the Champions League. Consistency has been very very good in the last few years and I think that's a good guide to the standard that we are at now in terms of Europe and also the progress we're making and of course we want to continue that."
