Argentine Apertura leaders Boca Juniors travelled to Mendoza to face mid-table Godoy Cruz on Sunday, knowing a win would put them nine points ahead of second-placed Tigre and take them to the brink of the title.

The visitors took the game to their hosts and opened the scoring with a wonderful end-to-end move after nine minutes. Dario Cvitanich, who was involved in his own half, ran all the way to get the final touch as Boca went one up in front of a strong contingent of travelling supporters.

Eight minutes before the half-time break, Boca were awarded a penalty when Godoy's Nicolas Sanchez brought down Cvitanich in the area.

Up stepped the 38-year-old Rolando Schiavi, who rammed the ball home to give his side a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Godoy made more of a game of it in the second half and they were rewarded four minutes from time when Ariel Rojas scored with an absolute thunderbolt which gave the keeper absolutely no chance. Boca held on, however, to win 2-1. They now need a single point from their final three games to claim the Apertura crown.
