Bayi edges Jiangsu 99-97

The Bayi Rockets faced visiting Jiangsu. The host’s super center Wang Zhizhi was back after missing action due to injury. Jiangsu searched for an answer to the Bayi offense in the first quarter.

Bayi scored some easy baskets. The squad dominated both ends of the court and got off to a blazing start against the Jiangsu club. The lead swelled to double digits early. Bayi led 35-19 after one. Jiangsu woke up in the second quarter with a trouble-making fast break attack.

Daniel Gadzuric’s strong play helped his team catch up. The game was tied at the break 49-all. Bayi never recovered its early success in the second half. Jiangsu jumped out to a 10 points lead. Gadzuric went to the bench for a rest and Bayi managed a comeback. The Rockets tied the score at 88-all and forced overtime against Jiangsu.

That’s when Wang Zhizhi took charge. He scored the biggest deuce of the game to make it 99-97 Bayi. Jiangsu tried its last play with 22 seconds left on the clock. The home team survived the dramatic finale and Bayi pocketed its third win of the season.
