Group B winners Inter Milan entertained CSKA Moscow. After a scoreless first half, CSKA poured forward at the start of the second half and they were rewarded within five minutes when Love slipped in the onrushing Ivorian striker Seydou Doumbia to finish.

Russian celebrations were short lived however as Inter equalized in the very next attack when Esteban Cambiasso was on hand to poke home with the outside of his left foot.

The lifeline spurred on the Russians and they grabbed the winner when Vasily Berezutski rose majestically to head in a corner as they ended the match in wild celebration. CSKA Moscow dramatically qualified for the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, remember how Ajax had a seven goal advantage over Olympique Lyon in Group D. That turned into a 9 goal-turnaround thanks to the Dutch side 3-nil loss to Real Madrid and Lyon’s astonishing 7-1 win over 10-man Dinamo Zagreb. So, Lyon is off to the knockout stage - Ajax, left on the outside.

Benfica secured top spot in the group with a 1-0 victory over Romanians Otelul Galati. Second-half goals by Gokhan Inler and Marek Hamsik were enough to secure Napoli’s passage at the expense of Manchester City, the Italians finishing on 11 points to the 10 of City group A winner Bayern finished on 13.

With Lille-Trabzonspor ending goalless, CSKA qualified in second place with eight points from six games, two points behind 2010 winners Inter. Trabzonspor go into the Europa League having finished third.
