Alex Corretja was presented with his mission in Barcelona on Wednesday and has been awarded the position for two years.

Corretja replaces Albert Costa who stepped up into a director's role after leading Spain Davis Cup victory in 2011.

Corretja is the former world number two and twice French Open finalist. He helped Spain win their first Davis Cup in 2000.

One of the problems facing the 37-year-old is that many of Spain's top players may not be available for the tournament.

Rafa Nadal and David Ferrer have said they will not play Davis Cup due to tight schedules. Despite this, Corretja said he would speak to the players and decide what is best for the team.

Alex Corretja said, "I'd like to count on everyone. I am willing to talk with everybody and understand their situation and to take the best decision for the team. I think the team has to be over the individual as we did before. I said this when I was a player and I think the same way now."
