Zhang Qichao wins in women's 1000 meters speed skating

Short track speed skating and freestyle skiing were the focus of action on Tuesday evening as a six-pack of medals were up for grabs.

Short track speed skating event lived up to its billing of roller derby on ice during the women’s 1000 metres, as numerous spills occurred.

In the first quarterfinal heat, Fan Kexin who won the 500 metres fell, and the referee ruled her opponent was at fault so Fan advanced.

In the next heat, gold-medal hopeful, and 1500-metre champ, Jilin’s, Li Jianrou was disqualified after bumping into the other skaters.

Liu Qiuhong was the early pace-setter, but was soon overtaken by Zhang Qichao.

That meant it was Changchun’s Zhang Qichao, Li Dan, Mudanjiang’s Liu Qihong and Jilin’s Xiao Han that advanced to the final.
