The season-opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions kicked off in Hawaii on Monday.

As the highest-ranked player at the Kapalua Resort, Steve Stricker of the United States had his eyes on a 12th PGA Tour victory, as he headed into the final round with a commanding lead on the rest of the field.

For the second straight day Steve Stricker opened the round with a five stroke lead. And Stricker dials it in here as his approach finds the slope behind the pin, and nestles up nicely.

But the American’s lead whittled away early on. Stricker parred his first five holes before bogeying the sixth to fall to 18 under par.

Meanwhile, Martin Laird of Scotland was in good form, having a five-birdie-in-seven-holes run on the back nine. He shot his second straight 67 to close at 20 under par.

But Stricker regained control in the second half. Collecting five birdies in the last 11 holes, Stricker close out 69 to post a winning total of 23-under, 269.

Laird would finish three shots behind to finish in second place. With the victory, Stricker pockets 1.1 million US dollars and moves up to number five in the world.
