Benzema leads Real Madrid past Malaga 1-0

In Spain’s Copa del Rey round of 16, Real Madrid went to Malaga holding a 3-2 advantage on aggregate. Victory would bring Jose Mourinho’s men closer to a possible showdown against arch-rival Barcelona in the last eight.

The teams played at the Bernabeu stadium, meaning big-spending Malaga only needed to score one goal to advance on the away-goals rule, and match remained scoreless and tense all the way to the end.

Cristiano Ronaldo was just off his third place finish in the FIFA Ballon d’Or selection. But Malaga held-down the striker with some tough defensive play.

Real dominated the end-to-end action, but a goal proved hard to find for both teams.
