Former champion Maria Sharapova is sweeping through the women’s draw in imperious fashion. She scored a 6-1, 6-2 third round victory over German Angelique Kerber.

Sharapova hit the ball loud and got even louder during the 87 minute beat-down. The Russian showed no signs of the ankle injury that ruled her out of the Brisbane warm-up event.

Sharapova won the last of her three grand slam titles in Melbourne in 2008, and has conceded just five games in three matches while reaching the last 16 for 2012.
