Red wings double up Oilers 4-2

To the ice now and the Detroit Red Wings were looking to extend their franchise record home-winning streak to 18 games. Their recent run of success at Joe Louis Arena is within range of the league best mark of 20 set more than seven decades ago.

The Wings hosted the struggling Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.Late in the first and Detroit’s vaunted powerplay goes to work.Johan Franzen deflects the point shot and it’s 1-nothing Motown.

Second period now and the Wings up 2, when Edmonton breaks out. Sam Gagner makes no mistake...and it’s a one goal game.Gagner would not be done there. He picked-up his second goal of the game in the third period. The Oilers centre scored off a rebound.

Gagner reacted quickly to pounce on a loose rebound and tie the game at 2.

The Wings pressed for the lead, and got a goal off a wild scramble at the net. Nikolai Khabibulin doesn’t know where the puck is and Drew Miller finally pokes it in. Detroit goes on to a 4-2 victory and has won 18 straight at home.
