McIlroy leads Honda Classic after three rounds

Pro golf fans could be looking at a new world number one at the Honda Classic. The tournament’s third round took place in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida on Saturday. Rory McIlroy has his eyes on the top spot leading to the final.

Tiger Woods began the day seven shots off the pace at the PGA National Champion course. But he went the last 11 holes without a birdie and had to settle for a one-under 69, leaving him nine shots off the top of the leaderboard. Lee Westwood scored a birdie putt at the par 4 fourth hole to go to minus 3.

England’s Justin Rose started the day with a birdie at the first hole to take sole possession of the lead on nine-under. But he bogeyed the next two on his way to a one-over 71. He is four strokes off the pace at seven-under.

South Korea’s Y.E. Yang hit one of the better shots of the day when he holed out from the bunker at the 16th. Yang is level for the tournament following a third straight level-par round of 70.

Here’s Graeme Mcdowell at the par 5 18th hole, this birdie putt moved him to 69 and he finished at minus 4. Rory McIlroy was a shot back to start the day and set up a birdie with his tee shot at the 15th to grab a share of the lead at 10-under.

Then, McIlroy sunk a 12-foot putt at the 18th for his sixth birdie of the day. The youngster carded a four-under 66, to finish the day at 11-under for the event. McIlroy will take a two-shot advantage into Sunday’s final round.
