Ray Allen and the Celtics hosted the Spurs. San Antonio would lead most of the way, but Paul Pierce would erase the lead with a triple. Then the Spurs go back in front as Gary Neal hits from the land beyond.

Team Alamo would then increase the lead to four as Matt Bonner is able to hit. The Red Rocket had 10 on the night. Boston would cut the margin to 1, as Ray Allen does what he does. Only 5 points on this night.

The Celtics would get a stop and have one last chance to win it, after a switch Paul Pierce has Tim Duncan defending him he takes the fall-away but can’t hit. San Antonio holds on for the 87-86 win.

Other action from Wednesday night - Dallas outlasted a tired Memphis team. Steve Nash hit a couple late buckets to pace Phoenix over Utah. The Pacers had an easy time handling the Wizards, while the Raptors handed the 76ers their second straight loss. Atlanta, New Orleans and Golden State were also winners, and Milwaukee continued their push for a playoff berth with a win over Cleveland.

And a quick look at the playoff picture. Miami’s win, their 17th in a row at home, moves them to within 2 games of Conference leading Chicago. Indiana holds onto third, and Boston remains fourth. Orlando and Atlanta are battling for the fifth and six seeds. Philly holds onto seventh, while the Knicks are only a game ahead of the Bucks for the final playoff spot as the Bucks win helped them pick up a half game on the idle New Yorkers.

Out West, San Antonio is only a game back of Oklahoma City for the top seed. The Lakers win over the cross-town Clippers gives them some breathing room for the Pacific Division lead. Memphis and Dallas are in a battle for fifth and sixth. Phoenix is a game back of Houston and Denver for the final two spots.
